The control of asthma is the cornerstone strategy in the management of patients with asthma. The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) report proposes 3 asthma control levels: well controlled, partly controlled, and uncontrolled.1 This classification considers symptom control (including asthma symptoms, nocturnal awakening, bronchodilators use, and activity limitation) and future risk of adverse outcomes (including exacerbations, fixed airflow obstruction, and medication adverse effects). Moreover, symptom perception may be easily evaluated also by the visual analog scale, a psychometric tool fruitful in daily practice.
