Chemoradiation of locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head-and-neck (LASCCHN): Is 20mg/m2 cisplatin on five days every four weeks an alternative to 100mg/m2 cisplatin every three weeks?

Many patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head-and-neck (LASCCHN) receive chemoradiation, either alone (definitive treatment) or following surgical resection if specific risk factors such as incomplete resection or extracapsular extension of lymph node metastases are identified (adjuvant treatment). Randomized trials demonstrated that chemoradiation was superior to radiotherapy alone for both definitive treatment and adjuvant treatment for patients with risk factors [1–7].
